Asbestos in the dock

the Eternit trial report, Torino (Italy)

Laurie Kazan-Allen, Coordinator of the International Ban Asbestos Secretariat

April 6 will be a momentous day for asbestos victims all over the world. The trial in Turin is a landmark in the global struggle not only to compensate the people whose lives have been devestated by asbestos but also to put negligent corporations on notice that they will be held to account for the harm they have done. It is not acceptable that companies build their balance sheet on the blood of their workers. The people who worked for Eternit in Italy and elsewhere went to work to support their families not to sacrifice their lives to their negligent employer. We applaud the committment of the people who have brought this case to the courthouse and will watch your progress with great interest.

In solidarity,
Laurie Kazan-Allen
